HOUDINI BUCK

For the past few years I have always spent the first week of

hunting season hunting elk. Elk hunting is my passion and

I could spend all season doing it. Most of the elk in Montana start

bugling the second or third week in September, except for the

area where I hunt elk they are always bugling a week or two early.

Probably because the area is isolated and very few people if any travel

through that area. Elk hunting would have to sit on the back burner

this year. This year I drew a coveted mule deer permit. 

For years I have been putting in for this special permit.

Finally, I had been chosen. I was scouting every day I could.

After work, before work, every day I had I was in the mountains

scouting. For a month and a half I drove endless roads and hiked

miles of game trails looking for a 200 inch buck. I had to set my

sight on something. I know that there have been many deer taken

out of this area that have scored 200 inches. Hopefully I wouldn’t

have to spend the whole season looking for mine. I took notes
